Plus: Federal funds freeze, Bills-Chiefs' monster ratings, and New Jersey drone mystery solved?
RFK Jr. has taken the stand, glass of raw milk in hand.
The Senators are asking questions. As one Democratic committee member rambles, RFK Jr. makes a gesture to his aides. Now the aides are wheeling in a bench press, which they quickly raise to a 45-degree incline. RFK Jr. takes off his shirt and throws up 12 reps of 185, not breaking eye contact with said committee member. A Republican committee member fawningly offers him a spot, but RFK shoots red lasers out of his eyes and incapacitates him. The gallery erupts in applause. America is healthy again.
Okay, weâre having fun, but this hearing is must-watch C-SPAN. Read more about it tomorrow and donât be surprised if we just have to copy and paste the above.

Federal Aid Pause
The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) ordered a sweeping freeze in federal financial assistance on Monday
The order targets programs that âadvance Marxist equity, transgenderism, and green new deal social engineering policies,â though the OMB citing $3T in frozen funds implies a far broader freeze
While it is still unclear what programs are directly affected, the order excludes cuts to funding âprovided directly to individuals,â such as Medicare and Social Security
The freeze was scheduled to start at 5 PM on Tuesday, but was temporarily blocked by a federal judge

According to the US constitution, Congress holds the âpower of the purseâ and is therefore responsible for the appropriation and direction of federal funds. Trumpâs order therefore kicked off a legal battle about whether or not his administration has the authority to take such an action

Treasury Secretary Confirmed

The Senate confirmed Trumpâs nominee for Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent
Bessent, a billionaire former hedge fund manager, is reportedly pushing for universal tariffs starting at 2.5% and rising 2.5% each month, along with further tax and spending cuts
In his position â one of the cabinetâs most important â Bessent will immediately be tasked with navigating the debt limit and rising budget deficit while implementing Trumpâs vision for wide-ranging tax cuts
Bessent told the Senate that Trumpâs second term is a âgenerational opportunity to unleash a new economic golden age that will create more jobs, wealth and prosperity for all Americansâ

A major challenge for Bessent will be navigating the governmentâs debt limit, which was reached on January 21 and has put the government at risk of defaulting in the coming months
Bessent â who has stated that spending is âout of controlâ â has said that the US needs to âgrowâ its way out of a deficit, something heâs said it can do by cutting taxes and increasing energy production, thereby stimulating growth

đ§ Yesterdayâs Question: How do you use AI in your daily lives?
I use it to help me write emails for work. For example, i'll type in something like "Hey you haven't responded to my last four emails, your account is past due and you're not answering my calls. What the hell?" Then I ask AI to make it more professional and it gives me:
"I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to follow up regarding my previous emails, as I have not yet received a response. I would like to bring to your attention that your account is currently past due.
Please let me know if there are any issues or if you require assistance in resolving this matter. I would appreciate your prompt attention to this issue."
Boom! 15 minutes of rewording done in 10 seconds
The only time i use AI is for programming assignments. My professors have encouraged us to do so. People say most of programming is just knowing how to google things, and AI chatbots are just like a search engine but faster and easier. But i avoid using it for anything else, like making plans or doing research, i guess because I fear losing my ability to figure things out on my own.
I have decided to use AI as a tool. Being a librarian. I have used it to find display ideas, help with wording on newsletters. Just like any tool, one must double check accuracy, and not let it be the only option in your arsenal. Plus, I always state if I used it to help answer any questions. Honestly, it kind of reminds me of how librarians used the early stages of Wikipedia.

Carnival Emergency

Trinidad and Tobago
This nation extended its state of emergency, putting its world-famous carnival at risk.
A twin-island republic of 1.5M people in the southern Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago has traditionally been known for its carnival celebrations and energy wealth. However, the country has lately become known for something else: Gang violence.
In 2023, the country recorded 624 homicides, ranking it among the most violent countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, the worldâs most murderous region. Gang violence accounted for around 40% of those, per government data. This December, the government said it learned of an imminent gang war and declared a state of emergency.
Last week, parliament unanimously approved a three-month extension of the emergency measures. The order suspends some constitutional rights and grants police expanded search and seizure powers, though stops short of more drastic steps, like implementing a curfew.
The emergency measures will now remain in effect during carnival season, the country's largest cultural event.
While tourism officials say theyâve seen no immediate impact on visitor numbers, thereâs no doubt that some people would decide not to party in an emergency.
